Movie Spotlight: Inside Out

This week is very content heavy but I honestly just felt like writing and it sure beats doing homework for my summer classes.So what better way to start (or finish) your Saturday than with a movie recommendation! Inside Out is a fantastic movie and not just for kids, believe it or not (thank you Pixar!). In fact, if you have kids, I would advise caution with this movie as it is one of the saddest movies I’ve watched in recent years, and even though I’m a guy and guys don’t cry, I got choked up multiple times throughout the film. Truth be told, I was dragged to this movie because I thought it was going to be a kids movie! The plot centers around an 11 year old girl, Riley, who moves to San Francisco and chronicles her experience adjusting to school and life in general. The movie goes back and forth between Riley and her 5 main emotions represented as cute little people inside her head: Joy, Anger, Fear, Disgust, and Sadness. The writers managed to envision a world inside Riley’s head and shows the brain as both a machine and a vibrant wonderland of thought and emotion. The world is fully realized and ever structure inside the mind is well fleshed out in what is perhaps the most fun interpretation of the human brain. Move aside, anatomy books, just have your students watch inside out instead. So there you have it, a brief rundown of inside out. I don’t want to go into too much detail in case you still haven’t seen it, but I would definitely give it the thumbs up. One of the best movies I’ve seen in recent years.

Final Verdict: 10/10

One of the best movies I’ve seen, beautifully written and executed, I could not find a flaw even if I tried.

Fruitful Friday

The Lockless Door by Robert Frost
It went many years,
But at last came a knock,
And I thought of the door
With no lock to lock.

I blew out the light,
I tip-toed the floor,
And raised both hands
In prayer to the door.

But the knock came again.
My window was wide;
I climbed on the sill
And descended outside.

Back over the sill
I bade a ‘Come in’
To whatever the knock
At the door may have been.

So at a knock
I emptied my cage
To hide in the world
And alter with age.

Hey, when opportunity knocks. An interesting poem to say the least, not my favorite but decent enough as is. It’s a very simple and fun poem, referring to the window of opportunity to take said opportunity. He let it pass and he became filled with regret (a lot can relate to that, I’m sure, cause that’s just life), but lo and behold, another opportunity arose and he took it. So what to take away? Don’t give up when the going gets rough, but hope for a better tomorrow and persevere, it’s never too late. And also, take any opportunity that arises, you never know what doors it may open. The Musically (Un)Gifted

Music has never clicked for me. In fact, I didn’t even really get into music as a hobby until my sophomore year of college. Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I cannot play music, heavens no. But I do enjoy listening to music. There’s a certain connection when you listen to a really good song and what I find inspiring is that music crosses all culture. A world without music is just bland. Musicians tell stories and there’s a song for everyone, no one ever says “that’s my movie”, or “that’s my book” or “that’s my game”. But people will always say “that’s my jam”. Music is truly a beautiful thing and hearing my roommates play the piano makes me jealous, one day I might learn, but for now I’m content with just being a listener. Question of the Week: Dogs or Cats

A question as old as time, are you a dog or cat person? Me? Well, of course I have to go with dogs. Dogs, after all, are man’s best friend. Dog’s are loyal and kind, get jealous when you pet other dogs, and will love you till the day they die. Cats, however, are malicious evil creatures. Make one wrong move and your cat will methodically plot your demise. Cats have sass, will hate you if you leave them for too long (forget about going to college), and will destroy everything you love with their claws if they deem that you love that stuff more than you love them. Like I said, pure evil. Dogs however, will always be happy when you come home and get depressed when you’re gone, but never let that depression turn into hate, cause they trust you’ll always come back! And that’s the thing, a healthy relationship is built on trust, so therefore dogs automatically win! Feel free to comment below and thanks for reading!
