Germany Week 1: I’m not dead!

I arrived and am alive!

So the first question you may be asking yourself, “Did Mike make it”? The answer is yes. The next question you might find yourself asking “what have I been doing the past week”? Well, let me tell you.

Classes started the 5th and I arrived at 6:10am on the 2nd to Frankfurt airport. Feeling overwhelmed at the airport, I quickly found the nearest Starbucks, which I suppose is better than going to McDonalds. After I had time to collect myself, the rest of the OSU squad arrived and we took a taxi to downtown Frankfurt (don’t, it cost 74 Euros!).  Frankfurt is basically the Wall Street of Europe, so there were plenty of skyscrapers and people in suits. When we arrived, we checked in at the youth hostel, had lunch, and then napped for a few hours (super exciting!). After our lovely nap, we decided to explore Frankfurt. Besides there being a lot of brothels (we didn’t go in, I swear!), there were…

Churches!!!

I took a lot of photos but the one above is my favorite and is simply here to illustrate the fact that we explored around 3 to 4 churches, all of which were very beautiful. Just to give you an idea of scale: 20160902_170516

After the churches, we found…

A bridge with love locks! A lot of love locks! That’s about it. It was cool, but nothin’ special.

And Then…

The creepiest statue ever. And then…

The chillest statue ever… But of course, I wouldn’t be a good business major if I didn’t take a photo of…

The Bear and Bull of Frankfurt! So yes, it’s confirmed! Frankfurt is indeed the Wall Street of Europe if there ever was any doubt.

What else did I do? Ah yes, after Frankfurt I arrived safely in Mosbach via train. The housing is amazing and i’ll have more photos on the way… But for now, just to give you an idea of how awesome this experience has been thus far, here’s the bed i’ll be sleeping in for the next four months.

Yes, it does have zebras! That’s all for now, cheers and stay classy friends!

Word of the Week

Effusive [ef·fu·sive] adj.

1. Unrestrained or excessive in emotional expression; gushy

Here’s the fancy word for the week. I wish I could think of something clever to say, to make you want to go out and use this word right away, but I can’t. Nothing pops up, but that’s okay. You’re all smart individuals if you’re reading this blog and I’m sure this word is already in your vocabulary. As they say, this is elementary.

Fruitful Friday

The Lockless Door by Robert Frost
It went many years,
But at last came a knock,
And I thought of the door
With no lock to lock.

I blew out the light,
I tip-toed the floor,
And raised both hands
In prayer to the door.

But the knock came again.
My window was wide;
I climbed on the sill
And descended outside.

Back over the sill
I bade a ‘Come in’
To whatever the knock
At the door may have been.

So at a knock
I emptied my cage
To hide in the world
And alter with age.

Hey, when opportunity knocks. An interesting poem to say the least, not my favorite but decent enough as is. It’s a very simple and fun poem, referring to the window of opportunity to take said opportunity. He let it pass and he became filled with regret (a lot can relate to that, I’m sure, cause that’s just life), but lo and behold, another opportunity arose and he took it. So what to take away? Don’t give up when the going gets rough, but hope for a better tomorrow and persevere, it’s never too late. And also, take any opportunity that arises, you never know what doors it may open. Thanks for reading and if you like what I write, be sure to follow as I update my blog fairly regularly.

Question of the Week: Dogs or Cats

A question as old as time, are you a dog or cat person? Me? Well, of course I have to go with dogs. Dogs, after all, are man’s best friend. Dog’s are loyal and kind, get jealous when you pet other dogs, and will love you till the day they die. Cats, however, are malicious evil creatures. Make one wrong move and your cat will methodically plot your demise. Cats have sass, will hate you if you leave them for too long (forget about going to college), and will destroy everything you love with their claws if they deem that you love that stuff more than you love them. Like I said, pure evil. Dogs however, will always be happy when you come home and get depressed when you’re gone, but never let that depression turn into hate, cause they trust you’ll always come back! And that’s the thing, a healthy relationship is built on trust, so therefore dogs automatically win! Feel free to comment below and thanks for reading!
